Jazz Voice Summer School @Taff Fest

Join us for two days of singing jazz, enjoying the beautiful seaside town of Haapsalu and Taff Jazz Festival. The course is meant for singers interested in jazz and is open at all levels. We will work on jazz repertoire, technique, improvisation, and rhythm. I'm happy to bring two amazing singers and teachers, Josefiina Vannesluoma and Karmen Rõivassepp, to work with me! Josefiina Vannesluoma - improvisation, rhythm, 1-1 work

Josefina founded Jazz Voice School in Helsinki and is a voice teacher at the Turku Conservatory in Finland. Her debut solo project, The Mortal Lease, was nominated for "Best Jazz Album of the Year" at the Emma Gala 2024 (Finnish Grammy). Vannesluoma also leads and composes for vocal ensemble Signe and bossa nova group Nossa Bossa and various other projects. Signe has twice been nominated for "Best Jazz Album of the Year" at the Emma Gala. She received an honorable mention after being nominated for the Teosto Prize 2020 with their debut album, To Sappho.

Karmen Rõivassepp - improvisation, circle singing 

Karmen Rõivassepp is a critically acclaimed Estonian singer and composer who has spent most of her career in Denmark. Her debut album "Dance of Sounds" brought her the Danish Music Award in the New Jazz Artist of the Year category. In 2019, she received the Estonian Young Jazz Talent award, and since then, she has performed as a guest soloist with several orchestras, including DR Big Band and Ensemble Edge. In 2023, she released her album "Ambivalence" with the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, debuting as a big band composer. The album got wide recognition, winning the Estonian Music Award for Best Jazz Album and the Danish Music Award for Composer of the Year. Read more

 

Timetable:

THURSDAY 18.7

  • Optional: 2h walking tour in the Old Town of Tallinn, Estonia, with Susanna (complementary) at 11.30-13.30. I used to be a tour guide for 10+ years! So I'll show you my favorite places in the capital of Estonia! 

 

FRIDAY 19.7

  • Leave for Haapsalu on Friday around 9AM. Get there around 10.40.

  • Going to the master class place, coffee break 

  • Workshops 11.30 - 14.30

  • Lunch, check in to hotel/ accommodation 

  • Open mic 16.00 - 17.00

  • Free time: dinner and festival visit. Susanna's gig on the main stage!

 

SATURDAY 20.7 

  • Workshops 10.00 - 13.00

  • Lunch

  • Workshops 14.00 - 15.30

  • Open mic 16.00 - 17.30

  • Free time for dinner, festival visits, etc. 

 

SUNDAY 21.7 

Return to Tallinn. Buses are leaving from Haapsalu almost every hour. The return trip is not included in the course price, and it's best if you book it yourself according to the time you wish to leave. Go here!

Book until 31.5.2024 - 250 EUR

Book after 31.5.2024 - 300 EUR

 

  • Tallinn-Haapsalu in a public Lux Express bus (Friday 9AM)

  • Two days of workshops

  • Open mic

  • A pianist or guitarist accompanying the master class and open mic

  • Taff festival full pass

 

The price does not include

  • Food. There are so many lovely restaurants in town! 

  • Accomodation. Airbnb's and hotels vary from 50-200 EUR/night

  • Return trip from Haapsalu to Tallinn

 

PS! Minimum group size for this program is ten people. If we have a smaller group, we can still have the master classes, but we might not be able to invite all teachers! If we have more than 10 participants, we will occasionally split into two groups to give students more individual time!
